Places to eat in the West Wight

There is a large variety of places to eat in the West Wight, whether it be for a light lunch during a country walk, a family day out or a fine dining experience. Below are just a few that we recommend...

The Kings Head

Yarmouth

The Kings Head is a Yarmouth local run by Tim and Michelle with a large menu with good pub food as well as daily changing specials.

They are open in th day and evening and do both light lunches such as sandwiches and soup as well as larger meals in the evening.

This pub welcomes families which can be catered for in the seperate restaurant and dogs are also welcome. Indoor seating as well as a small outdoor courtyard.

Great atmosphere!

Dimbola Lodge Tearoom

Freshwater Bay

Dimbola Lodge is not only a photography museum, but is also the home to a bespoke gift shop, library and tearoom.

Open 7 days a week from April- November and 6 days a week the rest of the year, they have scrumptious home baked cakes and teas available 10-5 and then traditional home cooked lunches, whether it be a bowl of soup or a larger meal. Indoor and outdoor seating available.

All guests staying at Fieldside house are able to recieve a 10% discount on all food and drink orders (excluding evening functions).

They also have various events on throughout the year- why not have a look on their website for upcoming events that might be on throughout your stay!

The Highdown Inn

Totland Bay

This pub can provide both a formal or informal dining experience with a country pub bar on one side and a smart restaurant seperate on the other.

The food available is set on a changing specials board with light lunches, main meals and desserts. Ideal for a spot of lunch after a walk from the Needles or Freshwater Bay, the pub is located at the foot of the chalk pit downs half way along the Tennyson Trail from Freshwater Bay to the Needles.

There is a sunny garden for the summer periods and a warm, welcoming pub area for those winter nights.

The Farringford Garden Restaurant

Freshwater Bay

The Garden Restaurant in the grounds of the Farringford; once home to Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a fine dining restaurant run by chef Justin Brown.

With 2 AA Rosettes, it is no wonder that ths is a slightly more pricey option, however it suits well as something for a special occasion or a slightly more formal evening out. The restuarant is open for both lunch and dinner from Spring to Autumn- now open for 2014 from Tuesday- Saturday lunch and dinner 6-9pm and Sunday lunch.

Overall, a contemporary yet simplistic dining experience.

Warren Farm

Alum Bay

Warren Farm is situation in the coutryside not far from Alum Bay Pleasure Park. A quiet cafe where those who visit can experience a delicious award winning cream tea, locally brought and made produce, sandwiches or homemade cakes.

As well as this, there is a small gift shop selling locally made Cakes, Scones, Preserves, Chutney and Local Farm Milk. We also stock Handmade Cards, Local Prints, Isle of Wight Soaps as well as Maps, Books and Postcards.

Take note though, although well worth a visit, the farm is only open weekends and school holidays from April- July, daily July- August apart from Fridays and then back to weekends only in September, before closing for the winter.
